Book 5 - Chapter 3

"Darkfinch?" Berrystar called, but Fiona had already left. "So we are still being followed?" asked Birchtail. Berrystar nodded. "Then we have to leave." decided Birchtail. Berrystar nodded again. They traveled until they reached some mountains. There was a small
cat sitting in the snow. "Who are you?" asked Berrystar. "Me?" asked the cat. Berrystar nodded. "Well let me think, I have lived alone and a cat living alone doesn't need a name because no one calls her name. I either don't have a name or I don't remember what my name was if I had one. "So you don't know what your name is? Or what we should call you?" said Berrystar. "Why should you call me anything? I am not joining you or staying with you. I have always and will always work alone, hunt alone, sleep alone you get the idea. I can I tell that you have heard this before."replied the cat. Berrystar narrowed his eyes and said, "yes I have heard one staying by themselves and then they returned and betrayed my clan." "Oh of course. So now you are so much more cautious." purred the cat. Berrystar's eyes narrowed even further. "I won't make you stay here, but before you go I need to ask you some questions." The cat tipped her ear to one side, "How are you going to make me stay or even answer your questions." she inquired. "We have ways." snapped Berrystar. "Well I have my ways too. I don't fight by the warrior code. I learned that there is only one defeat. I learned when I have been living alone not to trust any one no matter what they say and do. They could be tricking you. Sound familiar?" The Fishclan cats were looking around nervously. "I will give you an option Berrystar," said the cat. "You can either leave me in peace and never speak of me ever again among your clan, or you can continue and ask me questions but leave your post as clan leader."
